A return to paradise is a limited edition artwork for the Paradise Works studios, as part of their multiples shop space. Following on from my original multiples commission, Lumens of Paradise, I re-visited the immediate surroundings of the studio - a community garden and River Irk to produce a series of framed 35mm slide back lit lumen prints, and accompanying sound piece via a personal QR code.

Lumens are a one-off contact photogram using found flora and materials of the often unnoticed natural and man-made objects surrounding the studios. The original series (Lumens of Paradise) was made with other studio holders as a collaborative process, but this new series has been made in collaboration with my child, as a practical way to make work as a mother, since the first series was made.

This project relates to my wider arts practice including personal projects like Big Bear, Little Feet and socially engaged commissions responding to UK waterways such as The People’s River Project and Roam, River, Roam.

The purpose of displaying these new lumens within the old 35mm slide acts as a nod to both the history and potenital future of photographic practice. More broadly it connects to the changes we are seeing to the urban landsape around the studios, as rapid development along our waterways, and deconstruction of our socio-eco history. The audio piece captures the sounds of the foraging of items along the walk with my son.
